Legal Intern – Human Rights and Business Unit
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week (flexible and negotiable)
Duration: 3–6 months (flexible; with possibility of extension by mutual agreement)

About the Role
The Human Rights and Business Unit is seeking a motivated Pro Bono Legal Intern to support its work at the intersection of international law, business and human rights, and transitional justice.
This internship offers hands-on exposure to applied international law in a complex transitional context. The intern will work closely with Unit staff and contribute meaningfully to research, analysis, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis on relevant topics under international law.
- Draft legal memoranda, internal briefs, research notes, and blogs.
- Support programme work across thematic areas, including:
- Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) in post-conflict reconstruction
- Environment and human rights
- Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights
- Chemical weapons accountability
- Transitional justice and corporate accountability
- Assist with administrative and programme-related tasks as required, including preparing slide decks, drafting templates, and creating forms or tracking tools.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled law student or recent law graduate.
- Working knowledge of international law, particularly:
- International Human Rights Law
- International Humanitarian Law
- International Criminal Law
- International Environmental Law
- Demonstrated understanding of Business and Human Rights principles and practices
- Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to synthesise complex materials into clear and concise analysis.
- Ability to work diligently and independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate with colleagues across different time zones.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Familiarity with the Syrian context or other high-risk, conflict-affected, post-conflict, or transitional settings.
- Arabic language skills.
